London Gatwick Airport

London has four airports, and London Heathrow is the largest.  London Gatwick may be the second largest, but it is Europe’s leading airport for point to point flights.  To research the other airports click on this link

When we fly into London Heathrow we head straight to Central Bus Station located at Heathrow Airport.   The journey time is longer than catching a train from London Victoria Station, but the prices can’t be beaten

London Gatwick is 5km from the nearest city, Crawley, and 47.5km away from the city of London.  You can find accommodations around the Gatwick area, for half the price of staying in London, and enjoy those essential amenities.

We’ve stayed in quite a few hotels and guesthouse in Crawley area and our favorite is Premiere Inn London Gatwick Airport South.  The hotel is built on the site of a Gatwick Manor, guests can enjoy a meal at the olde worldly Pub, and then stroll through the most amazing tranquil gardens.   We were ten minutes from Gatwick Airport but the hotel’s peaceful setting made my husband and I feel like we were in the middle of the English countryside.  Check out my upcoming blog for my review of this hotel.

We stay in Gatwick, year after year, and always choose the speedy Gatwick Express to sightsee in historical London.  Travel time on this dedicated rail line is 30 minutes, and trains leave every fifteen minutes.  For up to date information check out their website.

The online travel agency,, has helped me stretch my holiday dollars every since we discovered them three years ago.

Based out of England, the travel agency operates totally online and offers the savings back me, the customer.  There is a toll free number to call but we have always felt safe to pay online.  There are no hidden fees, the quality of the hotels have always been as stated on the website, the flights departed on time, and out pre-booked airport transportation was waiting when we arrived.

With each holiday I was offered a selection of accommodation:  self catering, hotel, or resort style holidays.  We could stay bed and breakfast, half board (breakfast and dinner), full board (all three meals) or enjoy the cost savings of the all inclusive option.  We could stay as long as we wanted, five days, one week, ten days, and up to 31 days.

Sunshine has a contract with many of the chartered airlines:  Thomsonfly, Easyjet, Monarch Airlines, Jet2 and even British Airways.  Many European destinations offer daily flights and we had our pick of morning, afternoon and night flights.  The morning flights are the most popular and slightly more expensive.

The website is easy to use, you pick your flights first, then the hotel, airport transportation, and then you pay.  You can choose hotel only, flights only, or an entire packages.  The website is quite, easy, and always the 1 800 number is clearly listed.

This year our holiday dollars stretched to a fourteen night all inclusive holiday in Crete on a beachfront resort, including flights from London Gatwick,  Our holiday cost only $1922.09GBP, or $3,200CND.  Our resort offered eight pools, six bars, six a la carte restaurants, and a private beach.  This is an amazing deal but not usual for sunshine.
